THIS IS A DECK OF CARDS CREATED TO WORK WITH YOU ON YOUR EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.
Humans are such emotional creatures. It is both a blessing and a curse. A lot of times emotion drives us to do crazy things that we would later regret. Learning to work with it is an important mission both at work and in life. It helps us become better people to ourselves and to those around us. In little but profound ways. How can you be kind if you are always angry? How can you be kind if you are always heavy?
This deck will guide you through 5 critical components of Emotional Intelligence, according to Dr. Daniel Goleman. Each one is an independent part but very much related to each other. Getting better at one will definitely accelerate your journey with the other.
1. Self-awareness: Self-awareness can be defined simply as the ability to objectively assess yourself and how you come across. It is the raw material required to craft the other emotional abilities.
2. Emotional regulation: This is the ability to feel your feelings but not let them control you.
3. Motivation: Why do you do the things you do? (And avoid doing the things you know you need to?) Motivation is the ability to deeply understand your ‘why’ and thus, keep yourself moving forward.
4. Empathy: Empathy is the ability to put yourself in other people’s shoes.
5. Social skills: This is the ability to handle relationships with grace.
“There is an old-fashioned word for the body of skills that Emotional Intelligence represents: Character.” (Daniel Goleman) The truth is, you don’t get what you want in life, you get who you are. So, who are you? What character traits do you want to build? What character flaws do you want to fix? Who do you want to become? You can’t ignore these questions, they are getting more and more important by the day. In a world of artificial intelligence, what do we human have but our authenticity? And each other?
As Heraclitus once said: “A man’s character is his fate.” We hope in this journey you will find that you are allowed to change, and you can. That is not something to be afraid of. It is something to hope for. We are all allowed to change. And we can.
